A
small tree or climbing shrub found in the rain forest in the rain
forests, Leaves ovate or ovate-lanceolate; flowers greenish yellow,
in short congested cymes; fruits globose, c 3 cm. in diameter,
tuberculate, light brown or orange when ripe; seeds 1-8, angular,
imbedded in pulp.
The
plant is said to have mild antiseptic properties. Roots bark boiled
in oil or as decoction or as powder is used for the treatment
of rheumatism, gonorrhoea, itches, asthma, thirst and ear diseases.
